Australia’s athletes who are blind or have low vision enjoyed a successful Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, with outstanding performances across swimming, athletics, cycling and para lawn bowls.
Australia’s S13 swimmers delivered standout performances in the pool, with Jenna Jones and Kirralee Hayes collecting four medals between them, building on their success in Birmingham. Australia’s youngest team member Mia Hogan also made an impressive debut, finishing just outside the podium, showing great promise.
Jenna Jones won gold in the Women’s 100m Freestyle S13 and backed it up with a bronze medal in the Women’s 50m Freestyle S13.
Kirralee Hayes also had an impressive Games, claiming gold in the Women’s 50m Freestyle S13 before taking bronze in the Women’s 100m Freestyle S13.
Mia Hogan made an impressive splash in both the Women’s 50m Freestyle S13 and Women’s 100m Freestyle S13, with fourth and fifth place finishes in respective finals.
On the track, Nathan Jason finished fifth at his first Commonwealth Games in the Men’s 100m T12, competing against a strong international field.
Australia was also represented in the Para Bowls Mixed Pairs by Jake Fehlberg and Jacqueline (Jacky) Hudson. While the pair did not progress beyond the preliminary rounds, they proudly represented Australia against a strong international field.
Winter and Summer Paralympian Jess Gallagher continued her success in the velodrome, alongside pilot Jacqui Mengler-Mohr, claiming silver medals in both the Women’s Tandem B Sprint and Women’s Tandem B 1000m Time Trial.
Kane Perris and his pilot Luke Zaccaria also had success in the velodrome, taking home bronze medals in both the Men’s Tandem B Sprint and Men’s Tandem B 1000m Time Trial.
The results from Glasgow reflect the depth of talent among Australia’s athletes who are blind or have low vision. Four medals from the swimmers and cyclists, a top-five finish in athletics and strong representation in para bowls contributed to a successful campaign across a range of sports.
